January

Wow, this month is taking FOREVER!  After all the crazy busy of the last 5 months it's a little weird for us to have hardly anything going on.  Plus, we've both had our share of colds/flu to go around.  January just seems kinda blah and makes me long for the warmer spring weather that I know is just around the corner.

I'm longing for baseball, good thing I met Lou Brock last week.  The Cardinals had their Winter Warm Up and are getting ready for Spring Training.  Hockey is in full force.  The Blues are in the top 4 teams in all of the NHL!  The Super Bowl is in less and 2 weeks.  We have our vacations planned.

I'm really ready for what seems to be the longest month of the year, yes I do realize there are other 31 day months, to be over.

Is it time for fish fries and fun yet?

Picture This

Last Saturday we all gathered at our wedding photographer's studio for family pictures.  My mother-in-law has been wanting an updated family picture for some time now and why not January.  She also found a Groupon that our wedding photographer was doing so it worked out even better.  We all really liked Dave and he did wonders with our wedding pictures so  why not give him more business.

We met at his studio (house) Saturday morning bright at early and got started with the Bates family, to the Allender family, to the kids, to the girls, to the whole family.  Watching Dave get the kids to smile was very entertaining.  Even with Austin trying so hard not to smile, the pictures turned out great!

After the pictures we headed over to Chevys for lunch and home to let Reily out for a bit.  Then back down to South County for Christmas number 3 with the Bates' family and to celebrate Scott's mom's birthday.  On Sunday, before the Bates headed back to Chicago they stopped by to check out the changes at the house.  Last time they were there, they were painting the kitchen from orange to the current very lite green.  Also, it was a meeting between Reily and Riley.  Reily had to excuse herself to the backyard for the visit.

Lou!

Another highlight of my Cardinal fan career was today.  I met Cardinal great Lou Brock!  He was at Lindenwood with his wife, a board member, to show a family member the school.  The Dean came into my office and told me that Lou was upstairs and I could go up and meet him.  I did not believe him at all and so quickly went upstairs with him to check it out.

Low and behold, there he was sitting on the couch chatting.  I was introduced and we chatted about the Cardinals dinner the night before and I told his wife is she couldn't find the Dean and needed anything just let me know.

Such a cool experience!  I love Lou!

Snow

Guess what we woke up to this morning?  The first real snow of the winter, and I couldn't be happier that it waited until middle January to show up.  Since we've had a very mild winter so far I was too sure that it would really cool down and snow for us any time soon.  Low and behold we woke up to about an inch and a half of blustery snow.

It wasn't that there was snow on the ground and everyone freaking out, it was because it was still pretty warm when the snow started and then the temperature dropped and it melted and snowed again.

The highways were a mess this morning.  It took me an hour to go 8 miles to work.  It took Scott about an hour and forty five minutes to get to Soulard.  This was my view for about 30 minutes waiting to get on I-70 West.

As I look out my window at work, it looks like the snow is going to keep coming down the rest of the day.  Good thing we hit our high for the day already.  It's a nice 20+ degree outside for the rest of the day.  I'm happy the Dean bought pizza and I don't have to venture out to find food.

Sick

The new year didn't start off that great for us.  We both have been sick this first week of the year.  I had the worst migraine in years on New Years Day evening that lasted well into the night and next day.  Scott battled a sinus infection for a few days and then I got his cold.  Thankfully we are on the mend.  Minus another migraine last night after a much needed gym workout.  Reily has been a very supportive pup, she has been sleeping with me and giving Scott the whole couch to lay on.  I think Reily might have had a bit of a cold last week.

World Series Trophy

Since St. Louis is a baseball town with a drinking problem, it's only right that in the middle of winter we are still thinking about our amazing title run last October.  I saw on the news that the World Series Trophy was going to start touring the St. Louis area and I wanted to jump on that.

Thankfully we were lucky enough to have the trophy very close to our house at the beinging of the tour.  After a work out we headed over to US Cellular to get in line and get our picture.  Amazingly enough there wasn't much of a line for us to wait in!

History

We finally made a long anticipated trip to the History Museum this past weekend.  After a great brunch with Kristin and Tom at Benton Park Cafe.  We ventured over to Forest Park and the History Museum.  We had planned on going to check out the Mammoth and Mastadon exhibit but it was a little price.  So we are saving that for a free day (a random Tuesday).  Instead we checked out the "Civil War in Missouri."

From history classes I knew that the state was divided, but reading more and seeing the exhibit I saw how divided it was.  We saw the different areas of the state that was divided and even got to create a battle ship that made it's way up the Mississippi River.

After the exhibit we walked around the section that is all about the World's Fair in 1904 and then a quick walk through of the history of St. Louis.  I love when most of the museum is free and that we can just pop in whenever we want to.

New Years Day

We did spend New Years Day right! We woke up late and went to brunch at Scape in the Central West End. I had been wanting eggs benedict, since I did not get them Christmas morning, and Scott had a Mexican egg omlet. The food and  atmosphere was great!

Then we went over to the Art Museum to see the Monet's Water Lilies. It was the first time that all 3 panels were together in an exhibit.  I found that I really liked this one:

I kept going back to look at it and loved the yellows that were used. The whole exhibit was very cool. We like the art museum so much that we decided to become members. I'm excited that we get to go to more things for free. Next up for passes, Missouri Botanical Gardens, that will get us in the Spring.

After the musuem, we ventured out to Best Buy to just pick up a Blu Ray player. However, we ended up getting a great deal on a new TV. We are both very excited to start being able to really watch the hockey games. We got home and started setting up the new TV and Blu Ray player.

I ended up getting the worst migraine I've had in years. It lasted all through the night and next day. I sure don't miss those.

Happy 2012

Wow it's another year and I'm already slacking on my blog posts.  We had a very uneventful New Years Eve, which is what we planned.

On New Years Eve day, I spent most of the day cleaning and continuing my basement organization.  Scott went in to the office and worked all day long.  I did go over to Scott's parents house for Christmas celebration without him.  I got a great fleece blanket that has Huskers on one side and Rams on the other.  Perfect for Satuday and Sunday games.  Since the Huskers have faired a little better this season, they are winning the rotation.  We received a nice picture frame, small fountain and some goodies.

Later that night, after Scott got home from work we laid on the couch and tried to stay awake till midnight.  We caught up on some TiVo and then when it was close to 11 Central we watched the Ball drop in Time Square and decided that was enough.  No use forcing ourselves to stay awake and rewatch the same thing.

Even though we didn't do anything crazy for  NYE, it was a great night of relaxing.  I do love NYE.
