Bathroom Update

I have slowly started painting the bathroom.  The random green sponge paint is no longer there and the primer went up and then the bathroom was blinding white.

I have started to paint one coat of the extremely neutral color that we have picked out the day we bought the tile.  It still looks white to me but it's better than the peachy color that it resembled while I was painting. Hopefully, I'll have the bathroom closer to being completed in a couple days.  Then after the wedding we can start thinking about new sinks and tile for the floor.  So close to having that bathroom finished!

Wedding Hair

I have officially had my hair trial for the wedding.  I think it turned out pretty good and I made some decisions about veil or no veil.  I'm happy to have this major hurdle taken care of now.  I'm having a girl who went to grade school and high school with me do all the hair and makeup for the bridesmaids and I'm pretty excited for the days events.

I believe I have decided to have her come to the hotel to do all the hair and makeup.  One less trip for me on the day of the wedding is the best thing and then we only have to get to the church and get dressed there.  Hopefully the rest of the wedding planning will be this smooth.

Pre-Cana Class

Since we are having a Catholic wedding there are certain things you have to do in order to be married by the Church.  You must meet with a priest and take a FOCUS test, go to Planned Parenting Class and complete 10 hours of Pre-Cana Class.  We have completed everything but our Pre-Cana class.

We signed up for the last possible Saturday classes that we could because of Scott's work schedule and our shower schedule.  And so our classes are June 18 & 15 from 9am to 2pm with 25 other couples.  The class is pretty much watching videos and talking about communication and family planning.  Most of the "issues" that they bring up are things that Scott and I have talked about already and have worked out since we've lived together.  There were a couple things that were brought up that we have talked about but nothing has been a big shock.  Although, I don't feel it's a waste of time, I do feel that it is good for us to go to these things and hear what other couples have experienced.

Wedding Frustrations

Whoever said planning a wedding was fun was truly crazy.  I don't see how any of this is fun to anyone.  There are deadlines and other people to make happy and it just is one big mess until, I'm sure, the actual day.  You try to do things to make others happy, because you want them included in your day, and you cannot make them happy.  Things cost too much, deadlines need to be met, people need to see the schedule, and the to do lists.  Not to mention you have a list going in your head that once it's written down will change.

Isn't the key word in this whole thing is that it's our wedding?  I love the help that I'm getting from everyone but sometimes I don't want to talk wedding, to anyone.  I just cannot wait till the count down is over and I can get a good night's sleep for the first time in months.  And to not have to harp at someone to be somewhere, call this person, get this picked up, pay for this, schedule this.

50 days and I can sleep, peacefully, and relax on a beach!

St. Gabriel's Picnic 2011

A great annual tradition, the St. Gabriel School Picnic.  Besides the rides and BBQ food and beer it's great to catch up with long lost grade school friends and neighbors.  Needless to say, it's one of the best days of the year and highly anticipated.  Now that I'm older I don't go on the rides and I hang out in a different part of the picnic than I did when I was younger but the fun is still there.

This year I ran into girls from grade school who I hadn't seen since maybe high school and ones that I had been very close to in grade school.  It was a lot of fun catching up with them and seeing their kids.  I saw neighbors who I grew up with and their parents and their kids.  This year was a little different because my mom and brother were in town and were experiencing their fist picnic in over 10 years!  It was great watching people have double takes when they saw Andrew!

I can't wait till next year to go again and see everyone!  But why wait till next year, Gabe's Happy Hours are monthly!

Couples Shower

The couples shower has come and gone and it was great!  All of our close friends and family were there and it went off without a hitch, thanks to Zipf and Mike for doing an awesome job!

People started to arrive around 2, Mike was busy making burgers and Zipf did a great job hosting the party. Everyone was drinking and talking and it was great for everyone to finally meet.  There had been a few friends that I talk about to other friends and it's nice that everyone is getting to know each other.  I can't wait for the bachelorette party for even more name and faces to come together.

We had a great turnout out from, family, friends, and co-workers.  We even managed to sneak in present opening time.  Scott had to learn the golden bridal shower rule, do not break the ribbons on presents the hard way.  We really have some great friends and family and are very thankful for them to come to our shower and give us such great gifts.

Of course, after the party we went to St. Gabriel's school picnic!

Omaha Shower

My mom and I went up to Omaha this past weekend for a bridal shower hosted by the Sheldon side of my family.  It was a quick trip to Omaha but a lot of fun and great time catching up with everyone.  We arrived Friday evening after taking our time driving up, stopping at a mall in Kansas City for shoes and food.  And a nice family history lesson of what Sheldon's live where in Iowa and where their farms are located.  Plus we had first hand viewing of the flooding.  We had dinner with my Aunt and cousin, Nick Friday night and just hung out which was really relaxing.

Saturday we headed down to the Olive Garden for my shower.  It was great to see almost all my aunts, minus Pam, and my cousin's wives and how pregnant they were.  Erica is about 2 weeks from having Jackson and I was happy she was able to make it, and Annie has just started showing.  It's so fun having new cousins in the Sheldon family.  They are counting down till I'm in the mix.  After lunch we opened presents and Addison helped me out a lot with the presents!

Then we went back to Denise's house to figure out the plan for the rest of the day.  Since Omaha is constantly changing my mom and I wanted to see the improvements plus some of the flooding and Taste of Omaha was going on.  We went to Aksarben Village and had some cupcakes and Jones Brothers Cupcakes.  The cupcakes weren't as good at the Cup in the CWE but they had some awesome flavors that I had never seen before, like sweet & salty and bacon maple syrup.

Stopped to say hello to Grandma and Grandpa.  I hadn't visited their graves since my grandfather's funeral in 1999, it brought back some memories and stories that we all shared.

After that we headed to Mid-Town for some shopping and dinner.  We ended up doing some damage for Annie at a shop and then hung out at a Cantina Laredo for drinks and dinner.  It was really good Mexican food.

After dinner we hung out and talked more with my uncle Chris, who had joined us for dinner, and then headed back out to Elkhorn for another relaxing evening.  But after such a busy day it was a very early night.  We did get to see my cousin, Luke, Sunday morning before taking off.

We drove downtown Omaha and saw the flooded Missouri river before heading out of town.  On the drive through Iowa on I29 we were amazed with all the flooding.  The news kept saying that the highway might be flooded within the next week.  We did stop in the small town of Hamburg, Iowa and saw everyone packing up their entire house and businesses because the Army Corps of Engineers were going to release water from the dams and flood their town.  It was very sad to see this happening first hand.

After our stop through there we stopped in Kansas City for lunch and then made great time to get home by 5.  I was exhausted from a great weekend and can't wait for this coming weekend, another shower and Andrew is coming in.
