Holy Heatwave

I'm pretty used to the heat.  In fact, I prefer the heat over the cold weather any day.  But we are expected to reach 108 today!  That is 4 degrees over the record set back in the 1950s!  The triple digit heat is planning sticking around for a week - right into 4th of July celebrations.  But what is 4th of July without the crazy heat?  Thankfully I work in a freezing cold office and will not have to be out in the heat much.  Hopefully, everyone is careful out there this week!

Busy June

We have had something going on every weekend in June.  I'm impressed with how busy we have been.  Things that we have been up to are:

- A much-needed movie night at a high school friend's house.  I have had plans for that last few times she has tried to get a movie night going, and I had yet to see her new house.  So I managed to see a movie I've been wanting to see (The Vow), catch up with a friend and meet a new one, and see the new house (it's crazy nice, but so far).

- We took a trip to the Boeing Learning Center.  Scott's sister works there and gave us a tour of the facilities during the family picnic day.  I was really impressed with the site and loved the tour.

- Celebrated Father's Day with a BBQ at Scott's parents house.  Reily was able to go down to their house for the first time and even spend the night.  We had a play to go to after dinner.

- We saw Oliver at Crestwood pool.  The Birch girls were in the play and they did awesome.  I do enjoy watching those plays, sitting in the parking lot, minus the impending storms that arrived shortly after the play ended.

- 1st annual Grub and Groove.  This was held at Francis Park and was put together by a guy I grew up with.  It was almost an extension of the school picnic since there were a ton of St. Gabe's people there.  It was nice to see more people who I missed at the picnic, plus local celebrities were there, like Cam Janssen (plays hockey for NJ devils), Brandon Bollig (plays hockey from Chicago), both St. Louis natives.  Of course the mayor was in attendance.  Great music and decent food, can't wait for next year.

- Birthday pub crawl - Scott and I weren't excited about a Sunday afternoon pub crawl, especially when it's 100 outside.  So we met up with everyone at stop 2 and had some chips and salsa and headed home.

Things have been busy for us. Maybe things will slow down after the 4th.

Fireworks

I love fireworks.  This past weekend we had lots of fireworks...I try to see them as many times as possible 4th of July and if I can find some other times of the year I'm extremely happy.  We had fireworks after our wedding and that was the best free extra with the wedding.  So why not try to go to the ball game on fireworks night.

I bought a Groupon for Cardinal tickets a couple of weeks ago and the game was last Friday night.  It was the frist game of inter-league play against Cleveland.  We got to the game early, had some hotdogs and headed to our seats.  They were pretty good for being a Groupon ticket, only problem was that we were in the sun for the first 2 innings.

The game could have been better, 3 errors!  The looked like they were sleeping out there but it is always fun to be at Busch.  There was even a wanna-be streaker making his way on to the field and then arrested.  That gave the Cards a little life but it was short-lived.  They lost and then the real show started.  There was about 20 minutes of fireworks being shot off all around the stadium.  We could lean our heads back and see the ones above us or look across to the 3rd base side and see more.  It was worth staying till the end of the game to see.

Saturday was St. Gabriel's School Picnic, a holiday in itself.  We arrived around 7 and headed over to find people.  I had my heart set on finding food more than the beer booth.  Scott, Shane, and I walked around until we found some water and then I started to see people I knew.  I ran into to some old close friends from grade school that I hadn't seen in a few years.  It was nice to catch up with them and their parents.  It's always amazing as to how many people we all know.  I think this year I saw a few more people than I had in the past.

Towards the end of the picnic, Scott and I decided to leave a little early and try to beat the rush out.  Instead we found a nice spot on the hill to watch the fireworks go off right above us.  It was a great end to the picnic.

I wonder what other fireworks we'll have this summer?!

Summer of Busy

This past weekend started out with the intention of being slow.  That quickly changed after Friday night.

Friday night we headed over to Forest Park to watch Shakespeare in the park.  This year's play is Othello.

We got there early enough and managed to get a decent spot for our blanket and goodies.  We quickly ate our dinner, salami, cheese, hummas, pita crackers.  It was a great dinner and people watching before the play.  Diana and Chip joined us right before the play started.

The acting was decent.  The actor that played Othello did not break up the lines well in the first act and that kinda ruined it.  But the second act was a little more entertaining.  However, the temperatures dropped to the mid 50s and it was freezing sitting out there.

The good news of the night was that I got to use my seat warmer for the first time.  I never thought that would happen on June 1st.

Saturday morning I got up early and went to Mathew's t-ball game.  He made some pretty good plays to first base and some solid hits.  I later went to Catherine's baseball game.  Reily got her hair cut and looks even cuter now.

Once I got home, we decided to try out Bailey's Range.  A hamburger restaurant downtown.  The food was amazing!  I think the chocolate shakes are as good, if not a little better, than Crown Candy.

We checked out the new stuff at City Garden...

After stuffing ourselves we went to Jenner's birthday party at her house.  We had some fun hanging out with people we don't see too often.

On Sunday, we went to the Butterfly House.  I've been wanting to go there since I've moved back and it was a pretty cool place to check out.  Thankfully with our membership to the Botanical Gardens we just walked in.  There were plenty of butterflies to see and enjoy it.

Sunday night we went back downtown to have BBQ dinner on the roof of one of the loft buildings.  Chip and Diana invited us over for dinner and we were happy to check out the building and get some great food.

All in all it was a pretty good weekend and now back to work.
