Great great Zia Julie

Gabriel met his great, great Zia Julie this week.  It was a great visit, filled with smiles, playing and trying to figure out who he looks like.  Zia Julie has been more of a grandmother to me and I couldn't have been more proud to introduce her to Gabriel.  Gabe was happy to let her know he wore her outfit to meet the Easter bunny and that he plays with the very soft stuffed bunny that she sent him.

Palm Sunday Snow

St. Louis weather is extremely unpredictable.  Just 2 years ago there was the Good Friday Tornado and this year we had the Palm Sunday Snow.  The weather people had predicted this snow to come and a lot of us didn't believe them.  There was no way we were getting a foot of snow at the end of March.

But Sunday morning Scott woke me up with the window open in our room and it was already a wet, heavy snow at 8AM.  The snow didn't stop until after 6PM.  We got over a foot of snow at our house.  Officially it was 12.4 inches at Lambert.

So, for Gabriel's second official snow day we stayed home and enjoyed the snowy view out our windows.  We sent Reily out to check the snow height for us.  We knew it was deep when she had to gallop through it.  We did manage to get a lot of house cleaning and organizing around the house done.

Here is our snow day in pictures...

St. Patrick's Day

We don't really celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  I rarely remember to wear green and get really annoyed with those that pinch because I don't have it on.  We didn't have anything planned for Gabe's first St. Patrick's day.  In fact, I barely put him in anything green, it was more teal than anything.  Our goal for St. Patrick's Day was to see the Easter Bunny.  We got ready and headed out to get our errands and see the bunny around 12.

Gabe was asleep most of the car ride over to our lunch.  He was a champ and slept through most of lunch.  Then he woke up with a dirty diaper and let everyone know.  We quickly headed back to the car and changed his diaper and put him in the Baby Bjorn.  He was out by the time we headed back to do some shopping.  He allowed us to window shop and take our time in Crate and Barrel.

We then loaded him up and went to Micro Center and Target with him sound asleep.  He woke up when we moved him from the Baby Bjorn to the car seat.  Once that happened and he was able to eat we didn't want to push our luck.  He was done for the day.  We headed home without seeing the Easter Bunny, that's next weekend.

On the plus side with all the moving around and shopping we wore this kid out.  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

First Date

My amazing husband had a great idea this weekend.  We needed a date night.  And not just any kind of date night, we needed to go back to where we had our first date.  Way back in December 1998, I came up to St. Louis to visit my friends and spend New Years Eve with them.  When I arrived at the airport Scott, Jenner, Brooke were all waiting for me.   We went out to dinner and then I went to Brooke's house.   I didn't know it at the time but Scott had like me since we met Junior year of high school.

We spend separate New Years and then my flight was cancelled.  I couldn't get a flight out of St. Louis for 2 extra days due to snow.  It was just what I wanted, I was no way ready to go back to San Antonio.  So I called Scott and we went on a big group date to Rich and Charlie's (aka Dick & Chuck's).  Who would have know that two 18 year olds would end up dating 2 times long distance and then get married on the third dating try 15 years later?

This was our first night out without Gabe.  It was very much-needed.  We dropped Gabe and Reily off at Scott's parents house and headed to Rich and Charlie's for dinner at 4:30 - nice early bird dinner.  I'm pretty sure we both ordered the exact same dinners ( we tend to get the same things at Italian food restaurants, me more so).  We chatted about where we sat the last time we were there and who was with us.  What is great is that I have a picture of us from that night.  It's fun to see how much we have grown up.

And here is us after dinner on our way to spend a little more adult time before picking up Gabe.

Thank you Scott for knowing that I needed a night out!  Kinkos!

First Fish Fry

Since I've moved back to St. Louis I have gone to the fish fries at my old grade school every Lent.  In fact, it's something Zipf and I look forward to every year.  So when I told Zipf I was pregnant, she came up with the best baby gift.  She got the baby a "My first fish fry" onesie, in St. Gabriel blue and gold.  It was perfect, we just needed to wait till Gabe was big enough to handle the large crowd.

This weekend Gabe was almost 5 weeks old and ready to try the fish fry and see what the big deal was.  He sported his onesie and headed in to meet Zipf.  Gabe was very popular with the regulars at the fish fry and lots of people came up to ask about him and how old he is, his name, and then they saw his shirt.  Everyone thought his onesie was very creative and he was the talk of the fish fry.  And really, with as cute as he is, he really didn't need the onesie for help.  Thanks Auntie Zipf for my awesome shirt!  Now it needs to get warmer for Gabe to rock his Happy Hour onesie.

1 month Doctor appointment

Gabe had his big 1 month old doctor's appointment today. Mom and dad had a few questions about his eating and sleeping patterns. Good news is that we are doing everything right.

His 1 month stats are;

9 lbs 10 oz
21 1/2 inches long
38cm head

He did have to get his second Hep B shot. Overall a very healthy boy!

1 Month

I can't believe Gabriel is 1 month old! Where did that month go? Lots of sleepless nights, lots of naps during the day and lots of trying to learn his cries.

There were lots of firsts, car ride, trip to the doctor, out to dinner with grandpa and Nona, fish fry with Aunt Zipf, trip to Sam's, trip to Babies r Us, photo shoot, visit with cousins, meeting new friends and baths.

Big milestones for 1 month:
Holding head up on own
Learned he has a tongue and likes to stick it out
Hates sleeping on his back(troublesome for mom & dad)
Has a very protective dog, Reily is very concerned when it's diaper changing, feeding time or random crying
Loves to listen to white noise
Still hasn't lost any of his soft baby hair

This first month has been a whirlwind and I wouldn't trade it for anything! We love you Gabriel Scott!
