Family Pictures

Sunday was the best day we've had in a very long time.  Some areas hit 60 and sunny and windy.  It was a nice change of pace from the below freezing temps that we have been dealing with.  And lucky for us we went to Faust Park, aka the Butterfly House Park, for Gabe's 1 year old pictures.

We met up with Kelly, a photographer that was recommended to me by a co-worker, and found an old, historic part of the park.  There were 2-3 old house and a couple old barns.  It made for a perfect background for pictures that I love seeing on Pinterest.  If you click on the link to Faust Park you can see pictures of some of the buildings.

Gabe normally gets into having his picture taken and loves to see the flash.  This time he just wanted to explore everything.  We brought along his Koala, Kareem, to help keep his attention.  But I think Scott's voice for Kareem entertained Kelly and her boyfriend, Tim.  Kareem did make it into a few pictures.

There was a Valentine's Day photo shoot going on next to us, as they finished they let us use some of their balloons for Gabe's pictures.  He loves balloons!  It helped Kelly get a couple more pictures of Gabe just being Gabe.

I can't wait to see them!

First Haircut

We finally did it.  Gabe had his first haircut this weekend.  Since he had his 1 year old pictures coming up we decided that it was time to clean the kid up.  He really needed to get his bangs out of his eyes and the mullet that was forming needed to be cleaned up.

I called a few places that specialized in children's cuts and first haircuts.  We ended up at a place called Sweet & Sassy.  They have a section that does boys haircuts even though the majority of the store is dedicated to little girls having the salon experience.  It was cute.

Gabe didn't really know what to think about the store.  There were too many girls running around and that kept him busy while we waited.  His stylist was great.  She moved around as he moved around and he got a great cut.  There were times when he would let out little machine gun cries for help.  And his face looks way worse than it really was.  Overall he was a champ and looks even more handsome!

He now looks like a little boy.  I can't believe how big he has gotten in such a short time. After his hair cut we went out to dinner with Nana and Grandpa.  Gabe tried tortillas, tortilla chips and some refried beans.  He enjoyed all.  He even loved walking around the restaurant and saying hello to everyone.  A quick stop at Picasso's for lattes and dropping off one for Aunt Michelle, it was home and bed for this very busy, big boy.

Date Night

Scott and I had a wonderful date night this past weekend.  We received hockey tickets as a Christmas gift from Michelle.  We both have been counting down until it was game day.  The Blues are in the top 3 teams in the NHL this season and we haven't watch as many games as we would like.  So it was nice to get great seats to an important game against Anaheim.

Before the game we went to dinner at The Fountain on Locust.  It was a fun restaurant with adult milkshakes and deserts.  The food was really good, awesome atmosphere and decor.  I had the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup.  The grilled cheese had apple slices on it, which I'm not sure I really liked.

Check out this article in the STL Today website.  This was my meal before the game.

We headed over to Scottrade and found out seats.  They were great seats in the lower bowl.  We were in the corner where the Blues score twice.  It was awesome.  We could hear the players talking to each other and actually see the whole rink.  We were lucky enough to watch a goal trickle in behind Elliott.  Not one of his finer moments.

The Blues ended up losing to the Ducks and we were in the car just before the game actually ended.  Overall it was a nice night out.  Thanks Michelle for the great tickets and watching Gabe!

Teeth

They are finally coming!  Gabe's teeth are just now starting to poke through his gums.  This kid has been going through teething symptoms for months now and just this past Saturday I saw them.  It might explain why he was so fussy last week.

On Saturday we were playing and I just happened to get a good look at his gums while he was smiling and low and behold, there they were.  His top 2 front teeth just peeking through the gums.  Of course he wouldn't show me his bottom to see if those were close.

We have been waiting on these suckers to stop coming in.  And now Gabe can start to try more and more new foods.

11 Months!

Wow, where does the time go?  I can't believe Gabe is 11 months and very soon he will be 1.  This whole year has flown by.  We've gone on road trips with Gabe(Omaha twice, Chicago twice, and San Antonio), we've gone to Las Vegas without him, he has spent nights at Nana and Grandpa's, and I even survived 2 weeks alone with Gabe while Scott was in Australia.  It has been a very buys year since Gabe arrived.

Since we go to the doctor at the 12 month visit and not his 11 month, I'm guessing he weighs around 23lbs and I feel that he is rather tall for his age (he is close to the same height as Ford and Ford is 2 months older).  Gabe still does not have teeth.  Although, he shows signs daily of his gums bothering him and drools to no end, there is nothing.  He won't even let us really look at his gums to see if anything is about to pop.

For Gabe's 11month birthday, he and I ran some errands and then took a nice leisurely walk around the Galleria.  I have learned that 10am on a Saturday is prime time for moms with kids in strollers to be at the mall.  I think there were 5 of us in West Elm at one time.  Afterwards, Gabe napped and I relaxed a bit before Scott got home from an all day conference.

Gabe Fun Facts:
- He is walking (non-stop)
- Words - Mama, Dada, Nana, Baba and a variety of squeals with the occasional Ah, Ah, Ahhhh (Let's Go Blues!)
- He loves his Koala, Kareem,
- He is pointing and waving at everything
- We are working on blowing kisses
- He loves watching cars and waving
- He loves going for walks (it induces nap time)
- He has learned to stand on his pirate ship and loves being pushed on it
- He is figuring out phones and how to talk on them
- He loves to FaceTime with Grammie and Nana
- He loves to play in the water during bath time
- He is eating more and more food, he does not care for peas and peaches much
- Zero teeth (it limits trying new foods)

We had a fun photo shoot this month:

Check out the smirk on this kid.
 He LOVES his books!

Snowmageddon

We had Polar Votex cold(-10) and a foot of snow at our house this past Sunday.  It turned into a pajama day Sunday and work from home Monday, Tuesday and now Wednesday.   I'm kinda ready to get back to our routine, even if that means work.

Scott managed to take off for work on Tuesday, but was home around 1 because he wasn't feeling well.  Not to mention the streets are still a mess.  The highways were OK this morning, but the subdivisions and side streets are still a covered mess.  Who knows what it is like down on the Landing, maybe my office will open tomorrow.  In the mean time, here is a few pictures from our snowed in fun.

We are ready for warmer weather and more fun outside.

Allender Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with Scott's family the Sunday after Christmas.  We had everyone over at our house for lunch.  Gabriel received some great presents from his grandparents and aunt Michelle.  After opening presents, we had some homemade pizza and watched plenty of football.  The Rams didn't play that good, so we quickly turned it to hockey.  The Blues are a little more exciting to watch this year.

New Years Eve

We had a very laid back New Years Eve this year.  Gabe's buddy, Ford, and parents were going to come over for dinner and see how long the boys last.  But Joe, Ford's dad, came home from work sick and there is now a rain check for another night.

Instead, Scott, Gabe and I ate some chili and put together some of Gabe's Christmas presents.  Once the pirate ship was up and running we had a lot of fun playing.  We managed to watch a great firework show from our living room.  I wasn't expecting to see fireworks from Westport, but I will not complain.  Especially since the show was over by 6:15pm.  I'm pretty sure we were all asleep by 9 and it was perfect.
