I finally made it to a Cardinals game! My first game of the season was the Cardinals veruses the San Francisco Giants on July 1. The Cards had lost last 4 games and desperately needed a win! Wainwright pitched a great game and overall the defense was stellar. The Cards took an early lead. The Giants tied the game in the 7th with a sacrafice fly ball. The Birds had a chance to put some runs on the board with the bases loaded but Thurston could not capitalize. Instead he hit a blooper a couple feet in front of the plate.
The game went into extra innings. A couple close calls with the Gaints in the top of the 10th. with one out in the bottom of the 10th innning and rookie Colby Rasmus at the plate. He worked the pitcher and really should of been out on a pop foul that the third baseman dropped. But two pitches later, Rasmus took advatage and hit the ball to center field for a solo walk off homerrun!
It was the best way to see my first game of the season!
