Pike Plus

Gabe is moving up the swim ranks very nicely.  He just started his first class in the new session.  He  has advanced to Pike Plus from Pike.  He was a little nervous on the first day of class and forgot to follow his new teacher over to the other side of the pool.  But Miss Jo helped him find his teacher and all was good.

He seemed to love his new class with all new kids.  I even caught him playing with another boy in his class while they waited turns with the teacher.  Overall, Gabe really loves swim lessons and it is visible to Scott and I when we have family swims after class or on Sundays.

The Y has really been a great place for us all to enjoy.

Splish, Splash, Splosh Goodbye Summer

On Labor Day, Scott and I didn't have any real plans for the day.  We knew we needed to do something fun for the boys so they would take awesome naps.  And that usually means swimming at the Y.  Since it was Labor Day, the Y closed early and we were left trying to think where to go with boys in their swim suits.

Scott, thankfully, thought of the playground at Millennium Park and I remembered the splash pad!  Jackpot!  It was the perfect thing to stop some whiney, "I want to go to the Y" kids.

The boys had so much fun running around for 45 minutes in the water.  It was getting really hot for me and we didn't last at the playground too much longer after they were out of the water.  But we did get some great naps.

End of First Swim Class

Gabriel just completed his first swim class.  He officially graduated from Pike to Pike Plus.  It's a big deal.  In 6 short weeks he went from just playing in the water to having more confidence in himself and can swim on his own.  His class did focus a lot of using the noodles as support, but he was swimming on his own and the noodle got in his way.

Gabe had a great teacher, Joan, who guided him along the way.  She really made his class fun for him.  If you remember at the beginning of the lessons he was a tearful kid sitting on the side of the pool.  Now he can't wait for swim lessons!

On Sunday's Scott and I take the boys up to the Y to play while we work out then swim.  Gabe has really been able to show us his new skills and pass some of it along to water-fearless, Bennett.

Congratulations Gabriel on your first (of many) swim report cards!
